Default ImageTransmission Fluid Transfusion...

If it were mine and I had over 100K miles on my Land Rover I would recommend a transmission fluid transfusion. Although Land Rover transmissions are strong they are expensive to replace, just like any other car. Therefore, to achieve optimal performance and health of your transmission, we recommend performing a complete transmission fluid flush.

The Land Rover factory recommended transmission service is basically a drain and refill of 5 quarts at a time. This does not clean out all the fluid. The Land Rover automatic transmission holds about 15 quarts of fluid and by doing a regular service only 5 quarts are drained while 10 quarts of old fluid remain in the transmission. With our system, we remove all 15 quarts out of the system as we replace it with 15 quarts of new fluid plus a cleaner and conditioner to help the new fluid last longer and clean all the acids and build up that occur over time. If it were mine, I would perform this service every two years. This kind of maintenance can help ensure that your transmission is likely to do 300K miles without a rebuild. Give us a call to schedule this service. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. . Back...

Discovery Drive Shaft...

If it were my Discovery, I would recommend replacing the factory front drive shaft with our upgraded version that has serviceable fittings to allow for grease lubrication. The current design does not have serviceable u-joints. Because the front drive shaft sits next to the y-pipe, which emanates tremendous heat, and below the air conditioning condensation drain that drips water directly on to the drive shaft, the factory drive shaft u-joints deteriorate and can cause the drive shaft to break apart. Once this happens, the drive shaft can become a powerful weapon underneath the car and can swing around breaking components such as the transmission, the catalytic converters, the transfer case, etc. By upgrading to a serviceable driveshaft, this can allow us to lubricate the u-joints with grease thereby preserving them and preventing deterioration and further breakage. This is just another service the is exclusive to The Rover Group; we give customers the option and offer good, preventative maintenance advice. . Back...

Picking the Right Tire...

I am often asked, what tire size is appropriate for my Land Rover? The answer to that directly depends on how you plan to use your Rover. If the Rover never sees any dirt other than dirt in construction zones, then a regular street tire will do just fine. Our favorite brand of tires is the Michelin Synchrone. They seem to handle the weight of the Land Rover and wear the best with the least cupping that causes vibration. Although the Synchrones are a bit more expensive, the longevity of the tires will equalize the cost.

For off roading or for a multi-use purpose, we like BFG All Terrains or BFG Mud Terrains. In order for Land Rovers to accommodate some of the larger sized tires, a suspension lift may be necessary. However, a 1-2 inch lift will lift the car just enough to accommodate larger tires while also providing for some clearance for off road obstacles. The sizing on the tires depends on the size of the wheels, so call me and I can recommend an appropriate set up for your Land Rover. . Back...
