These are questions that we get all the time, so we felt that maybe others would benefit from this information.
Q: I’m thinking about buying a Land Rover- are they reliable?
A: Yes, Land Rovers are reliable, Jim always says they are one of the most reliable vehicle on the planet…. However, they must be fully maintained all the time. Neglecting maintenance and putting off repairs will make your Land Rover unreliable.
Q: What are the common problems that Land Rovers have?
A: Like any other vehicle, Land Rovers have their weaknesses. For specific model information, give Jim and call and he can fill you in on your model and what to watch for and how to prevent a problem or at least mitigate it.
Q: Are Land Rovers expensive to maintain?
A: We don’t think so, at least with comparable luxury cars and SUVs. You can expect to spend roughly the same money servicing a Land Rover as you would for a BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Lexus, Audi, Porsche. They are more expensive than your average Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, but these are totally different cars with a singular purpose, unlike Land Rovers which truly are utilitarian.
Q: How can I improve my gas mileage?
A: Well, unfortunately, Land Rovers are very heavy, safe vehicles and that takes gas to push them down the road. It’s simply the laws of Newtonian physics. However, the only trick that works to get the maximum efficiency out of your vehicle is to keep it optimally maintained. This means following all factory recommended services as well as TRG supplementary services and keeping your tires properly inflated. Even a few pounds of pressure will negatively affect your gas mileage. We always check tire pressure when your car is in for service to help you get the best possible mileage from your Land Rover.
Critical fluids, like engine oil, makes a big impact on your Rover's gas mileage. BG-MOA has also been found to improve gas mileage. Click here to learn more.
Q: Does TRG do Factory Warranty Service on the newer models?
A: No, we are not currently authorized by Land Rover to perform such services. However, we can help facilitate seeking warranty service on your behalf with your preferred dealership. We do accept Extended Warranty Service Contracts. Please inquire with our Service Department for specific policies and administrative questions/coverage issues. While you are under factory warranty, however, you are NOT limited to the dealership for your non-warranty repairs, such as brake pads and rotors, fuel systems cleanings, and other “wear and tear” items.
Q: Should I keep my Land Rover or sell it?
A: Well, that depends on how you use your car. We love Land Rovers because they are a universal car for all purposes (well, except racing/speed performance). You have to consider the cost of your current vehicle, including cost of maintenance and repairs, registration and insurance on an older car versus a new car, the cost of purchasing an unknown used car, sales tax on a purchase, etc. A Land Rover will last for several hundred thousand miles, if you keep up with the maintenance and service. We have several customers in the 200,000 and 300,000 mile club and they are continuing to drive their Land Rovers. There’s no reason to sell a Land Rover just because the odometer has 100,000 miles on it. That’s when Land Rovers are finally broken and are becoming great cars!
